Play Reading Tonight – Writing as a Kind of Magic

Am doing a play reading tonight at the Belfry Theatre as part of the Playwrights Cabaret.  Reading the character of Katharina Kepler,  mother of astronomer Johannes Kepler.  Accused of being a witch and the play draws inspiration from her Witchcraft Trial.

Playwright Joy Fisher has done extensive research on Katharina and Johannes and the play “Writing as a Kind of Magic”  is the third in a trilogy.

I first read this character for Joy as part of the Island Playwright’s workshop series last fall. Joy has since been work shopping the script with Charles Tiddler. Katharina is an incredible character to read, the play is mind-blowing. It seems Joy has squeezed every horrendous thing done to women into this one 74-year-old woman.  I’d love to play the role in a full production – tho not easy emotionally.

Do come if you love theatre, and/or are curious. Evening starts at 8:00 in the lobby.
